The clave
2.3-2 or 2-3
The five hits are not split evenly. One bar has three hits and the other has two. When the bar with three hits comes first, it is called 3-2 clave. When the bar with two hits comes first, it is 2-3 clave.
It is the same pattern, just started in a different place. Listen to both. In 3-2, beat 1 has a hit. In 2-3, beat 1 is silent, so you have to feel it. The ringed dot on the grid is beat 1.
